How Helys works, from listing to handover
You say what you have and what you need. Helys finds whoever can close the circle — even if that person wants nothing you are offering. Here is the whole journey, step by step.
The idea in three sentences
On Helys nobody sets a price and nobody transfers money. Everyone posts what they want to part with, and what they need.
The system continuously compares all of those listings and looks for combinations where everyone receives what they were after — two people, three, four, as many as it takes.
When a combination holds together, everyone involved is notified. All that is left is to agree and to meet.
The six steps of an exchange
You post what you have
A listing takes seconds: a photo, a category, a quantity, a few words. A bike, a drill, preserves, a parking spot, a week in a cabin — anything with a use has a value.
You never have to estimate a price. That is exactly what Helys spares you: the worth of a resource is judged by the use it will have for the person across from you, not by an amount.
You say what you are looking for
A request is posted exactly like an offer. It is what gives the system something to work with: with no stated need, there is nothing to match.
You can be specific (« a hammer drill ») or broad (« camping gear »). The broader you are, the more combinations you open up.
Helys looks for the loop
This is where everything happens, and it is what separates Helys from a classifieds site. The system does not merely look for someone who wants your item and owns yours: it looks for chains.
Marc has a bike and needs a drill. Lucie has a tent and needs a bike. Julie has a drill and needs a tent. None of those trades works between two people — but between three, everything clicks into place. Helys finds that kind of combination for you, continuously, and tells you as soon as there is one.
You never have to work out yourself who could close the loop, nor line up several trades. You give one thing, you receive one thing.
Everyone accepts, or does not
A proposed loop commits nobody. Each participant sees what they give, what they get, and from whom. They accept, or they decline.
Before accepting, you can talk and adjust: quantity, condition, terms. Every exchange has its own conversation attached. Until everyone has said yes, nothing is set.
You agree on a meeting
Once the agreement is sealed, you still have to meet. Everyone proposes times and places, everyone votes, and the meeting that suits all participants is the one that stands.
Helys handles neither shipping nor payment, since there is none: the handover happens between you, in person, at the place you chose.
The handover is confirmed on the spot
When you hand things over, each person shows a QR code for the other to scan. That is what confirms the resource really changed hands — in both directions.
Until both scans have happened, the exchange stays open. That is what makes it possible to see where every link stands inside a multi-person loop.
What it changes in practice
On a classifieds site you wait for someone who wants exactly what you have and owns exactly what you need. That is rare, and it is why we almost always end up going through money instead.
This is what people usually call bartering, on a far wider scale: Helys does not stop at two people, and that is precisely what makes it workable day to day.
The rest follows: no commission, no platform fee, no money changing hands, and resources that stay in your neighbourhood instead of crossing a continent.
What it costs
Nothing. Helys takes no commission, no percentage on exchanges, and has no subscription. There is in fact no payment of any kind inside the app, in either direction.
The project runs on voluntary donations. If what we are building speaks to you, you can support it — but it changes nothing about what you can do on the platform.
